I’m doing this RDP file transfer tutorial on a Microsoft Windows PC, But you can transfer data between a local computer and RDP on Mac OS and Linux operating systems by following this tutorial.

If you want to transfer data with a small size between RDP and a local computer by drag and drop then there should not be any problem.

Copying or transferring data between 1 to 100 MB’s no big deal. The problem arises when you want to transfer data ranging from 100MB to 100GB and on top of that, This becomes almost impossible If you are using a slow internet connection.

In a moment, I will describe how to enable copy-paste data transfer.

Is File Sharing Websites Solution Of Any Use For Data Transfer?

After several failed attempts, I thought of file-sharing websites that first upload to a file-sharing website and then use a given download link to download my data from the file-sharing website. But gave up on this idea.

Actually, there are two problems with file-sharing websites.

People behind file-sharing websites don’t allow uploading large files, as well as, they impose a specific download data limit on you to stop you from downloading with maximum download speed.

For example, Your internet’s download speed is 1MB per second, but they give you a mere 200KB per second.

The most annoying thing is that most of the file-sharing websites don’t offer resume capability.

In simple words, If the internet gets disconnected then You will have to start off your download from zero KB no matter if you were at 50% or 90%.

Additionally, Uploadingpersonal/private files/data to file-sharing websites is not a safe practice.

Built-In File Transfer Feature Of Remote Desktop Connection

The built-in or native file transfer or file sharing feature of the Remote Desktop Connection utility is the best, safe and convenient way to transfer data from an RDP to your local or host PC.

There is a downside to this method that makes it unusable for most RDP users. To transfer data in megabytes (MBs), the Remote Desktop Connection tool can be beneficial.

But If you have data in Gigabytes (GBs) or Terabytes (TB) and you use an internet connection with KBs download speed then It becomes almost impossible to complete data transferring.
